Heaven on Earth

God’s plan includes a perfect place with a unique relationship between God and mankind.

We see that plan at beginning of the bible.
Genesis 1:1
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
…and the end
Revelation 21
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea no longer existed. 2 I also saw the Holy City, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband.
3 Then I heard a loud voice from the throne: x
Look! God’s dwelling is with humanity,
and He will live with them.
They will be His people,
and God Himself will be with them
and be their God.
4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
Death will no longer exist;
grief, crying, and pain will exist no longer,
because the previous things have passed away.

In between these two we find a separation that takes place, that perfect relationship is fractured because of sin.
Genesis 3
17 And He said to Adam, “Because you listened to your wife’s voice and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘Do not eat from it’:
The ground is cursed because of you.
You will eat from it by means of painful labor
all the days of your life.
18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
and you will eat the plants of the field.
19 You will eat bread by the sweat of your brow
until you return to the ground,
since you were taken from it.
For you are dust,
and you will return to dust.”

This is where Jesus comes in. He enters the world in order to bring this relationship with God and man, with heaven and earth back together again.

2 Corinthians 5
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, and look, new things have come. 18 Everything is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 That is, in Christ, God was reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed the message of reconciliation to us. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, certain that God is appealing through us. We plead on Christ’s behalf, “Be reconciled to God.” 21 He made the One who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

As a result of Jesus’ love through the cross we are…

New creation – children of God
Reconciled -forgiven
Ambassadors – pictures of God’s grace and love to the world

That looks like heaven on earth

John 10
10 A thief comes only to steal and to kill and to destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance.

Matthew 6
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.

Luke 21
31 In the same way, when you see these things happening, recognize that the kingdom of God is near.

We don’t just survive until we get to heaven. We experience heaven and we portray heaven to others everyday.

Application questions…

If heaven descended on your life what would be different?

If heaven descended on your neighborhood what would be different?
