Meet Our New Lead Pastor

Meet Our New Lead Pastor

We welcome our new Lead Pastor, Josh King and his family to 2bc. Josh was voted in by our congregation on August 25th, 2018.

Dear Church Family,

We realize this has been a season of change at Second Baptist Conway but the Lord is ever-faithful! We believe He has used every challenge through this process to allow us, as a committee and a church body, to draw closer to Him. Thank-you for your prayers throughout this process and for supporting us as representatives of our church family. We are excited to announce that the pastor search committee are in unanimous agreement that the Lord has led us to Josh King and we recommend that he be approved as our next Lead Pastor. Our committee believes Josh meets the qualities for Pastoral leadership as outlined in the Bible as well as the qualities expressed during our church-wide survey. His experience in church revitalization work allowed us to see and appreciate his heart for the Lord and His people in a very real and practical way. Josh and Jacki serve as a true ministry team and we are excited to present them to our Second Baptist family!

In Him,

Pastor Search Committee

Conversion & Call to Ministry

At age 6, Josh heard the Gospel by way of a Christian school chapel service. While he was young, he understood Jesus was “in charge.” As a Navy-brat, he was familiar with authority. He said, “it seemed right to him that if Jesus was in control of all things that he should submit to His authority. So, Jesus became my Lord before He was my Savior.”

Several years later, at age 11, a few days before Christmas, while Josh was reading the Gospel plan in the back of a Gideon’s New Testament, he became convicted of his sin and his need for a savior. He recognizes that at that moment he prayed to accept the gift of salvation from God through Jesus.

The summer going into his freshman year at high school, Josh felt God leading him into full-time vocational ministry. Ever since his first full-time position as Student Minister at Lake Athens Baptist Church, Texas, he has, “served the local church and her King.”

Josh’s calling and passion are for the local, established church and leading her to realize her full potential through simple, relational ministry. He is also passionate about church health, biblical literacy, adoption, foster care, and racial reconciliation.

Ministry Experience

2011-Present: Josh currently serves as the Lead Pastor of Sachse’s Church in Sachse, Texas. Josh’s focus during his time at Sachse was church revitalization – restoration of the church’s health and growth. Membership grew from 100 to over 450 active members at Sachse. He worked to restore the financial and spiritual health of the church. Part of the spiritual renewal included four church plants and two church revitalization projects.

Josh is also a regular contributor to the EST. (Established Church) podcast. The weekly podcast covers the challenges and issues church leaders face in today’s church culture.

2010-2011: Josh served as the Associate Pastor to Millennials at First Baptist Church Grapevine, TX. He led ministry efforts ranging from 7th graders through 30-somethings (Millennials) and oversaw small group development for young adults. He managed both staff and volunteers at FBC Grapevine.

2001-2011: Josh served as student pastor at several churches while continuing his education.

Ministry Vision

When asked about views on evangelism and missions, Josh responded, “Evangelism is an aspect of discipleship. The two cannot be separated. We invite people into a lifelong relationship with Jesus and show them how based on the scriptures. My approach to the distinct act of evangelism is to make intentional relationships for the purpose of verbally sharing the gospel and calling that person to make a decision for Christ.”

“Missions is the reason the church exist. We are not only on mission overseas but in our own communities. Because of our resources, we have an incredible responsibility and privilege to intentionally start churches both locally and away.”

"In writing to you, Second Conway, I could easily focus on Josh King's leadership ability. He's a proven pastor with a track record of being an excellent shepherd. I could easily focus on Josh King's preaching ability. He's a capable communicator who loves God's Word. I could easily focus on Josh King's experience. He's accomplished a lot. But what is most important to me is how Josh King is my friend. He was there for me in one of my most difficult seasons of ministry. Josh stood by my side when I needed him. He is loyal. He has integrity. You are not only getting an excellent pastor, you are getting a close friend who will encourage you, laugh with you, and cry with you. Josh's wife, Jacki, is a talented leader, and you will quickly love the entire King family. When Josh initially mentioned to me the possibility of Second Conway, my first thought was, "God is in this." I still believe it. I'm thankful God is bringing the King family your way. I know you will welcome them, support them, and love them."
